UPTOWN KINGSTON DEVELOPMENT: Kingston, NY
Since moving to Kingston, NY, I have always been interested in a parking lot located in the center of Kingston’s Historic Stockade District. This area was settled in 1684 by the Dutch as a community to farm the lower plains and conduct business with the indigenous people.

The Stockade is on an elevated plateau overlooking the Esopus Creek. This particular parking lot spanned the 28’ drop from the Stockade plateau to the farm fields surrounding the creek.

We saw an amazing opportunity to create a park with retail spaces, a hotel and apartments while hiding the parking, mechanicals and storage on the lower level with access to a major thoroughfare.

It was a win-win to maintain the historic nature of the Stockade District, and allow traffic to flow freely.
