How often do you get the opportunity to create a geothermal brownstone in a Richard Morris Hunt residence in New York City? The client was open to drilling a 1000’ well under his home creating a revolutionary heating and cooling system for this 15,000 sf residence. The brownstone was a rare 40’ wide townhouse that allowed us to produce a 20’x20’ four-story atrium, bringing light throughout the entire home. With a combination of geothermal heat and cooling, we also provided an energy recovery ventilation (ERV) system that filled the entire house with fresh air without costing any lost conditioned air. The client suffered from allergies every spring and fall, but after we provided fresh filtered air 24/7, he chose to work from home on those pesky pollinated days. Beauty and health all under one roof.
